Old Post Lodge Case Study

The Old Post Lodge is a fishing camp set on remote Lake St Joseph, in Northern Ontario. This piece of Canadian heritage teems with walleye and trophy northern pike, and has earned them the reputation as “the northern fishing experience of a lifetime!”

Brief

The design brief had one main objective: provide repeat customers with new merchandise that would remind them of their time spent at camp and help support the brand.

My Role

- Competitor research
- Concepts and revisions
- Delivery of print ready files

Process

I started by researching similar brands and competitors. The client wanted to stay away from what others were doing as they felt it often looked too cliche. Our inspiration came from iconography used in logo design, combining geometric shapes and simple lines.
Early concepts were inspired by the architecture and themes of the fishing camp and ultimately we decided that an illustration of a fish would best meet our goal.

We knew that the it had to be realistic enough for the customer to recognize the type of fish portrayed. The design could not be too abstract or too simple. The challenge was trying to decide how much detail to include.
The design underwent a lot of iterations and the client and I were able to work together to achieve their vision.
Result

The client, fully satisfied with all the work presented, had the design printed on sweatshirts and sold 80% of the merchandise in the first season.

“Very happy with the sale of merchandise. It was great working with you!”
